Your enthusiasm and humour in the classroom have truly inspired our daughter!”
Our children in years 4 to 8 move to our Wyndham Place site, where they start preparing for their future schools. The children are well prepared for exams at 11 and 13+ for many of the prestigious London schools, as well as schools outside London.
Wyndham Place is in a quiet and charming square within the historic Portman Estate. The building has been adapted to provide exceptional teaching facilities, a form teacher remains responsible for each class, providing a pastoral link between the school and home.
It is important to us to emphasize the holistic approach to educating our children. The are introduced to many different sports, of which swimming is a strength. They continue to learn the recorder and move on to the clarinet along with a myriad of other musical opportunities.
They are encouraged in Art and Drama as well as enjoying a wide academic curriculum which includes Latin. Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry from year 5 where pupils are taught by specialist teachers whose passion for their academic subjects inspires, and motivates Abercorn students. Individual Netbooks are provided for the older pupils to enhance their learning.
A love of literature is encouraged by giving all pupils access to a well-resourced library. Each year pupils study a Shakespeare play and regularly visit London’s theatres.
The emphasis at this stage is on independent learning, facing challenges and leadership. There is a specific leadership programme for the oldest pupils where they get the chance to develop their leadership skills and participate in adventurous activities. We also have a school council and prefect system that enables the children to take responsibility and ownership of their own learning environment.
We make time for each pupil, nuturing and celebrating each child's individual achievement whilst encouraging them to striving and become a caring member of our global community here at Abercorn School.
