Gators go to National Championships
On Saturday, 24 January, 3 swimmers from the Abercorn Gators Team represented London North at the ISA National Swimming Competition. They were Kavita, Ben and Max. Well done to all of them for the great achievement of qualifying for this competition.
After many years of this annual event taking place in Coventry, this year the swimmers had a special treat of swimming in the London Aquatic Centre, where the London 2012 Olympic Aquatic events were held. Both competitors and spectators were very excited at being inside this venue, and some were lucky to see a Team GB diver in the form of Tom Daley practising before the races started.
Kavita swam her 50m breaststroke race quite early in the program. She finished 6th in her race, and I’m sure she is already looking forward to improving on this next year. Ben had the busiest day, swimming in 4 events. He finished 4th in the 50m freestyle, and 3rd in the 50m butterfly. Max had to wait until the last set of races of the day, which were the freestyle relays. He swam the 3rd leg of his team’s relay, and they managed to hold onto the lead they had built up earlier to win the race, take gold for the district and become a National champion.
Well done again to all three our swimmers for representing our school and London North at National level.
