U9's Football Tournament
On Thursday 19th March the Abercorn U9 Football team braved the unseasonable weather (well, unseasonable compared to the lovely days before and after!) to compete in the inaugural Medi Mehra Memorial Cup at UCS.
Planned as a grouped round-robin style tournament the team valiantly battled through seven matches (quite a few of which were on a pitch with a noticeable hill). We played matches against: Highgate, UCS, Radlett Prep, King Alfred and Belmont. Despite a size disadvantage the children conducted themselves well, never giving into frustration when things didn't go their way and giving their all throughout. Rory rose to the occasion with some stellar performances in goal; a position he rotated with Abbos and Elliot. In the outfield the remaining players, Makoto, Shinnosuke, Robin, Michael and Tomas, all from Year 3, showed great resilience and skill. Unfortunately, despite never giving up and continuing to give maximum effort, we bowed out of the tournament without a win.
Even without victory the children (and the very cold parents) enjoyed themselves immensely and it is safe to say, as a school, we are very proud of their effort!
