National Championships of Schools Aquathlon

Sports Events

On Tuesday, 23 June 2015, 24 children from Abercorn School participated in the National Championships of Schools Aquathlon. This event took place at Caterham School in Surrey. The children representing the school were:

Year 3 – Miles, Elliot, Marco, Barnaby, Sofia G., Chloe
Year 4 – Max, Megan, George, Joe
Year 5 – Simoné, Kavita, Ivor, Sophie, Lillie, Lucia
Year 6 – Ben, Elisa, Guilherme, Kyle, Hugo, Tommy
Year 8 – Jake, Gafur

Well done to them for being selected for the team and for giving their all on the day.

This was Abercorn School’s 4th year of participating in this event, and we had high hopes for success, as we have enjoyed special achievement in the past.

Competition was tough and the winning margins were very small. Our national champion, Sophie, from last year finished 6th this year, but was only 15 seconds from the winners time. Another person who came extremely close to being national champion was Jake, whose 2nd place was again only 15 seconds off the winners’ time. First-timer Elliot did very well to finish in 5th position.

A new national champion for our school was crowned on this day. This person has been trying to achieve this status for the last 3 years in both swimming and aquathlon, and has been extremely close on several occasions. Well done to Ben, who in his last month at this school, stormed to the finish in a time of 5 minutes 7 seconds!

We look forward to future success in this event, with a date for next year’s Nationals to be announced shortly.
