U11 Girls' Hockey Tournament
On Friday 6th November a newly formed Abercorn girls Hockey Team took part in an U11 Hockey Tournament held at St.Benedict’s Junior School in West London.
This was the first time the girls had come together to play as a team and they were all determined to do well. The tournament consisted of 5 games in total, against teams that play together regularly.
The first match was against Orley Farm and it was a tough start. They were very strong and Abercorn lost 3-2. We started to get more accurate when passing and better at calling out and making runs.
The team then went straight into their next match against Kew Green Prep. Another fast paced game saw the final score tie at 0-0.
After a short break, the 3rd match pit us against Notting Hill and Ealing Junior School. Our team spirit and hard work worked and we won this fixture 2-0. Every team member was excellent and we played really well together. There were lot of shots on goal, good passing, some really hard tackles and some blinding runs...and we had tired legs! We went to play the hosts St.Benedict’s. We knew this was going to be hard as they seemed to the the strongest team at the tournament. It was pretty tense and tightly fought. We were pleased we drew 0-0. It was a hard game!
The last match of the day was against South Hampstead Junior School, and having gained much confidence the girls revelled in a 4-0 win.
Abercorn finished the tournament in 3rd place with 16 points (only 1 point behind 2nd place)! A fantastic effort by all of the girls for their first tournament together as a team!
