Inter-school Science Quiz Championship
On Tuesday, 22nd November Abercorn School competed in the Area Heat at the Hall School in Hampstead for the National Science Inter-School Quiz Championship with two teams of pupils from Years 5 and 6.
Both teams had to test their scientific knowledge against 10 other teams. The competition was intense with a high degree of difficulty in which the students had to answer questions from a diverse range of topics including Space, Chemistry, Biology, Palaeontology, Physics, Geography and Famous Inventions. The Championship was divided into two rounds with teams given 30 seconds to respond to each question – the first round consisting of 30 questions and the second round of 10 questions. The questions ranged in point value depending upon their difficulty from between 20 and 80 points. Players from each team were allowed to confer before each had to lock in their own answers; results streamed live onto a large screen.
Our two teams performed admirably finishing 4th and 8th respectively. Team 1 only finished a mere 30 points behind the second placed team, which could have possibly secured us a place in the area final! Not a lot when you consider that they amassed a score of 1550 points!
