Abercorn Gators Swim for Charity
On Monday, 6 February 2017, the senior Abercorn swim team participated in a swimathon to raise money for Global’s Make Some Noise charity. This was the third time this event has been held, the first time being in 2013, and then appearing on the calendar every alternate year after that. This charity was founded as Help a Capital Child but has since been known as Make Some Noise since their focus changed to support youth initiatives across the UK.
Our swimmers were on a mission to complete as many laps of the pool as possible, with many children having found sponsors who would donate money per lap that they swam the competition was on! The current record of 40 laps in the 30m pool in 20 minutes was being targeted by the top swimmers, with others attempting to improve on their personal bests. Unfortunately, Max and Omar fell just 2 and 1 lap short of this mark respectively. It was a fantastic effort by all of the Gators on the day and many achieved their own PB’s.
Swimmers have been collecting sponsorship money since November and now the final lap counts are in the final push for donations is on. We look forward to finding out the final amount raised for this well deserving charity.
Well done Gators!
