Preparing for what lies ahead

Abercorn Upper School (Wyndham Place) is in a quiet and charming square within the historic Portman Estate. The building has been adapted to provide exceptional teaching facilities.
In the Upper School, a form teacher remains responsible for each class, providing a pastoral link between the school and home.
Pupils are taught by specialist teachers whose passion for their academic subjects inspires and motivates Abercorn students.
A love of literature is encouraged by giving all pupils access to a well-resourced library. Each year pupils study a Shakespeare play and regularly visit London’s theatres.
Elementary algebra, geometry, and trigonometry are taught, and an increasing emphasis is put upon investigative mathematics. Latin and Classical Civilisation are taught from the age of nine.
Pupils have the opportunity to spend a school week in an area of historic and cultural interest. York, Bath, Stratford-upon-Avon and Cornwall have been some recent destinations. Senior pupils spend a week in France for a first-hand insight into a different language and culture.
There is also an emphasis on developing leadership skills and participation in adventure activities.
Parents are given impartial and experienced advice on options available at the country’s leading independent schools at 11+ and at 13+.
