Extra Curricular Clubs

We are proud to facilitate a wide range of After School and extra curricular clubs, enabling pupils to explore their interests and develop new skills outside the classroom.

Our clubs vary from term to term and are designed to offer children exposure to new skills and areas of interest appropriate to their age. The clubs listed below are currently on offer and give a sense of the range of activities available.

Current Clubs

Clubs for our youngest pupils include Gymnastics, Taekwondo, Sports, Drama and Art. A late room runs from 3:30-4:30pm at Lower School.

In Senior School clubs can include Taekwondo, Chess, Football, Wacky Science, Ballet and Art, Hockey, Athletics, Taekwondo, Art, Computer Coding and Senior Choir, with clubs running from 4:00-5:00pm.  For older pupils, some clubs may take place off-site at local venues. A late room also runs from 3:30-4:30pm at Senior School.

In addition, an afterschool/late room service runs from 3:40-4:30pm which is FREE.  A chargeable Late room and Homework club service is provided each day at Senior School from 4:30pm - 5:00pm at a cost of £14.00 per day.  Parents are kindly asked to book this service with the school office.

All Ages

  • Art is important for children especially in early years. It supports creative thinking and imagination, hand and eye coordination, improves fine motor skills and builds social skills: sharing, waiting their turns, listening to others, helps children express themselves. Children have fun and form friendships in a welcoming and warm environment.

  • Wallace Chess is very excited to be teaching the chess program at Abercorn School. Chess club is open to of all levels of abilities – from complete beginners to competitive players. The coaches will teach strategy and tactics and there will be opportunities to compete in tournaments. Chess has been found to provide many benefits to children. It helps improve concentration, it develops creativity and strategic thinking, and it also teaches responsibility. Our coaches inspire children with a sense of sportsmanship which is important in many areas of a child’s life.

  • Calling all lion tamers, sword swallowers and human cannonballs! Roll up for action packed stories, activities and games designed to encourage gross motor skills, balance, hand eye coordination, self-expression, resilience, determination, teamwork, self-confidence.

  • In Years 2 - 4 children will have fun whilst learning, using the Scratch programming application and CodeSpark Foos program complete a range of exciting and engaging coding challenges. Tasks include a variety of basic programming tasks, such as creating repetitive loops and their own program algorithm, to create their own simple game to share with friends!

    Badges and certificates will be awarded for tasks completed throughout.

    The Senior School Coding Club encourages children to use a range of online programming applications, including the Microsoft Make Code website, Scratch and Minecraft, to design, build and code a range of programming challenges. Pupils take part in a range of tasks and are awarded badges for each activity completed.

    Using Scratch, children will program their own game to share with their friends. Upon completion of their game they will obtain feedback from their club members and will assess potential improvements. This club is designed to be an engaging and fun after school club suitable for all skill levels.

  • Dance club is an opportunity for children to express themselves through movement. They will learn a range of fundamental steps, and will start to follow simple choreography from the genres of musical theatre, jazz and contemporary. Dance club is a great opportunity to develop children's gross motor skills, coordination, and musicality. More than anything, dance club is a fun-filled workout!

  • Martial Art - Olympic Sport - A Way of Life. Unique and unprecedented programmes that combine fun and discipline in the safest way to maximise progress. Taekwondo is a positive method for combating the negative effects of pop culture, a unique self development vehicle and a great way to have fun, get fit and learn effective self defence and life skills. We are dedicated to helping your child be the best they can possibly be. Instructor Team led by Master Daniel Kobbina, Internationally recognised 7th Degree Blackbelt and Award winning High Performance Coach.

Age Specific

  • Mr Mahon's and Miss Klimkova's Sports Club provides encouragement and support for your child to build their confidence, motivation and skills in a variety of sports. These range from Dodgeball, Football, Hockey, Rounders, Basketball, Cricket and Tennis. This wide range of exciting skills and games not only develop agility, balance and co-ordination, but a wider sense of confidence, achievement and enthusiasm to try new things.

    Practical and fun learning experiences provide the foundation for your child to develop physically, socially and emotionally through the positive challenges and enjoyment of being active in this way.

  • Football Club for pupils in Years 2-4 is a fantastic opportunity for children to come and improve their social, teamwork and of course, football skills. We run age appropriate drills to help children develop their basic techniques in sport, which include passing, dribbling, defending and shooting. Practising these specifics consequently helps the children's knowledge of the game to progress, and also teaches them how to work towards an objective within a team. With a variety of games to keep the children entertained, the main aim of the club is for everyone to enjoy themselves and have fun, improving their football skills along the way.

  • At athletics club we aim to improve student fitness and athletic ability in cross country and track and field. We predominantly do this for the love of keeping healthy and encouraging a love for Athletics, as a sport, but also to build a team to take to regional and national cross country and track and field competitions though the year. We employ a range of training methods from games, interval sessions, endurance session, strength and conditions, sprinting and fartlek training. We have access to the track at Paddington Recreation ground, which gives our athletes an opportunity to feel and participate in the perfect environment.

  • Children work on the LAMDA Verse and Prose syllabus which is designed to develop a whole host of skills, from speaking clearly and using voice projection, to improving memorisation and gaining an understanding of poetry and prose as well as building self-confidence. As learners progress through the levels they interact with the texts, responding to them with imagination and using body language and expression to engage an audience.

    Year 4 children can choose to work on the acting syllabus developing their vocal, physical and interpretive skills while they delve into characters and explore the background of dramatic text. LAMDA (The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) is a world-class drama and music school and a leader in graded examinations, setting the standard for speech, communication and drama around the world.
