A busy week

From the Headmaster’s Desk: 26th January 2024

Mr Hammond

Headmaster

My hosting of the Independent Schools Association at Senior on Thursday was one small part of a very busy week. With a nutritionist visiting Lower on Wednesday, and a guide dog assembly on Friday, Year 3 and 4 travelled to Forest School, while Year 6 had a TfL talk on Friday morning. Finally, we hosted our second annual Senior Careers Day on Friday in our theatre, an event which encourages our oldest pupils to consider their GCSE options and future development. All such things were a tremendous success; thank you to all staff and pupils (and guest speakers) for taking part with such enthusiasm.

As I always say, each minute in a school day should be full of sixty busy seconds, and this trend continues with Abercorn Wellbeing Week from Monday. The key message of National Children’s Mental Health Week is that we want all children and young people, whoever they are, and wherever they are in the world, to be able to say and believe that my voice matters. This will culminate in our dress to express day on Friday 2nd February. Please see Mrs Wrottesley’s letter for further details. In fact, this weekend brings us Holocaust Memorial Day, lest we forget what has come before and the fact that violence is never the answer. Sobering thoughts are sometimes what is needed to bring us peace and put the wellbeing of children at the heart of all that we do.

Finally, our Key Stage 3 students have been working hard on rehearsals and preparations for their drama production in two weeks' time. They will be performing the play The Wardrobe in the Senior School Theatre at 7pm on Thursday 8th February. Parents of those children will soon receive information about how to secure your tickets to this exciting event and we look forward to seeing you all there.

All the best a relaxing weekend! Mr Hammond
