Andrew Matthews-Owen

Arts Award Mentor, Piano Teacher and School Accompanist 

Educated at the Royal Academy of Music (M.Mus) and Cardiff University (B.Mus), Andrew is in regular demand as a collaborative pianist and accompanist for internationally renowned artists. He appears regularly at Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room et al and on award winning recordings for the Naxos, NMC, Nimbus and BMS labels, which are frequently heard on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM.

Andrew, originally from Wales, has developed a national reputation as an inspirational teacher through his work in and around London, at both Abercorn and his work at Trinity Laban's renowned Junior Conservatoire where he heads the piano faculty.

Andrew has been elected an honorary Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) for distinguished services to music.

A member of the Abercorn family since 2004, Andrew teaches piano, assists with the school choirs and the specialist vocal ensemble AVE. You will also see him accompanying the show rehearsals and concerts at Upper School. Andrew is also the school's Arts Awards mentor, and enjoys working with students across all areas of creativity.

Andrew brings his classes to life by fostering a passion for all genres of music, and exploring and sharing new and exciting sounds from Bach to Beyoncé. His personal teaching philosophy ‘be curious’ inspires the young musicians he works with.

Qualifications: Master of Music (Performance Studies), BMus(Hons), ARAM, FRSA
