Barry Hopwood
Director of Music
As Director of Music at Abercorn, Mr Hopwood encourages a love of music in all his students, combining musical theory with play and practical creativity.
Mr Hopwood has been teaching music across all key stages for over 20 years and joined Abercorn in January 2013. Before moving into teaching he was a free-lance musician and a Director of a Music Education business in the North East of England. Having consulted with local primary schools, Mr Hopwood moved into teaching full time, enjoying the opportunity to influence Musical education.
Mr Hopwood believes in inspiring children with music from a young age and being passionate about their subject. He believes that in turn, this will ignite the spark in students and encourage many more of them to excel in a subject, they may have felt otherwise disengaged from.
Keeping up his professional musical engagements outside of school, Mr Hopwood is the Director of Music and Organist at St. Saviour's Church, Walthamstow.
Qualifications: IPGCE, BTEC Higher National Diploma in Business and Finance, Key Stage 2 Music Continuing Professional Development, First Aid at Work
